Mashobra is distinguished for being one of the two Presidential retreats in India. The other one being the Rashtrapati Nilayam in Secunderabad.
Indian president visits Mashobra every year at least once. During this visit, the core office of the president shifts to the Chharabra retreat in Mashobra. The building, which houses the retreat, has a wooden structure that was constructed in 1850.
The retreat has housed many famous people from the past. Lord Mountbatten and his wife Lady Edwina spent time in this retreat at the end of his mission as viceroy in May 1948. Jawaharlal Nehru who was the president of Inia at that time paid them a visit. Lady Mountbatten has documented it all in her biography.
From apple orchards, oak jungles, and devout temples to colonial architecture and glistening streams, Mashobra is a great tourist destination.
